NORMAN TALKS and other people talk about me.......
On Malden's 150th birthday....
"Happy Norman Day"..........from roadhawgster's blog
I woke up yesterday at a truckstop in Massachusetts, and went inside for my morning coffee. The cashier's name was Norman. I don't meet too many people named Norman. When I was young, my cousin had a friend named Norman. Norman Thackman. We all called him "Ironman" because he was so strong. His arms were huge! He drove a blue Ford Maverick Grabber. Norman Thackman was driving along one night, all smoked up on pot, rounded a curve, and saw a mule in the road. He said "Aw, man...its a mule! This is some Gooooood S__t!" But it wasn't a hallucination....it was really a mule. Norman Thackman totalled his Maverick and spent 2 weeks in the hospital.
There have been a few famous Normans too...a few that come to mind are Norman Rockwell, Norman Schwartzkopf, Norman Lear, Norman Fell, Norman Mailer, Norman Vincent Peale, Norman Bates, and who could forget that famous place in France, Norman D. And lets not forget the shortened version, Norm, of which we have Norm Abrams, Norm Crosby, Norm Peterson, and even Norm Graybowski!
But perhaps the most famous Norman of all was a Norman FROM Massachusetts....which is what got this whole Norman thing started.....I MET a guy named Norman....I'm IN Massachusetts....
Born in 1942, THIS Norman is known for being the most famous one-hit wonder in history. A singer-songwriter from Malden, MA, he only hit the charts once, in 1969, but his song has been used in countless Movies, TV shows and commercials. Yes, I'm talking about Norman Greenbaum, of course. While he doesn't perform anymore, he has an interesting website where you can interact by playing games like "Normans Goat Racing", where you can bet "Norman Dollars" on racing goats....I'm not making this up. See for yourself, after the song!
Here is the most famous Norman of all, Norman Greenbaum, with his only hit, Spirit In The Sky. Lets proclaim today "National Norman Day"!
